Here’s a short video of Sydney playing the acoustic guitar solos on “1, 2, 3, 4″ by Plain White T’s at our Summer Concert in June. This is one of the songs that didn’t make it into the podcast, but Sydney did so well I wanted to share her performance.
Our School Rocks Harder Than Your School is the official podcast of Music & Rock School. In our first episode, hosts John Kozicki and Ian Lear-Nickum discuss performance footage from our Summer Concert, and we interview some of the students that participated.
Music & Rock School held its Summer Concert on Saturday, June 19th and the students were awesome! While the majority of the young rockers performed in student bands, we also had solo performers and ensembles as well. The hour and a half long concert showcased nearly 30 Music & Rock School students performing on guitar, bass, drums, keyboard and vocals. The above video features students Emma Lowman (vocals), James Leeder (guitar), Amber Wilson (bass), Zach Raimundo (guitar), Jake Raimundo (keyboard), and Alex Kan (drums) performing “Swing, Swing” by The All-American Rejects, which was just one of 17 songs from the set list. Great job everyone!
I’m excited to announce that Music & Rock School is now offering keyboard and piano lessons. Consistent with our philosophy at Music & Rock School, lessons are more focused on rock and pop music, and preparing students for performance and playing with other musicians. While our piano instructor, Matt Kesic, studied concert performance piano in college, his playing experience also includes extensive work playing and recording with rock bands.

‘Rock Reborn at Apex School’ — Music & Rock School was featured in the News & Observer today. It features some nice quotes from student Parker Fredrick, and a mention of the new Masters Program. The full article is available in the News & Observer online edition by clicking here.
Well grounded in the roots of rock n roll, to hear Parker Fredrick talk about playing music, you get the sense that buried inside his ten-year-old body is the heart of a 1970s rocker. So it should come as no surprise that on a day-to-day basis, Parker jams along with guitarists like Angus Young, Derek Trucks, and Jimmy Page. He first picked up the guitar last Christmas when he got a Fender Strat as a gift, and he hasn’t put it down since! Read more »
New guitar, new drums, new bass for Christmas? New students can start the New Year right and save 20% on tuition with lessons at Music & Rock School! Develop a great foundation for physical technique and the knowledge to push your playing in any direction you’d like to go in the future!
The last couple of months have been a whirlwind of activity at M.a.R.S. headquarters, but I wanted to take a couple of minutes to thank the folks at Merge Records, as well as Erv Karwelis, founder and president of Idol Records, for supporting what we do here at Music & Rock School. Both record labels sent care packages with posters, stickers and CDs to decorate the new studios!
Both Merge Records and Idol Records are heavy-hitters in the independent music world. It’s not at all unlikely that some of the students at Music & Rock School my some day be looking to these labels, or others like them, for support in their musical pursuits. Read more »
Have you ever wondered how rock singers can scream for an entire concert and NOT lose their voice? The answer is proper training in their voice lessons. If a singer screams the wrong way, they’ll constantly lose their voice, tear up their vocal chords and potentially cause themselves permanent damage. If they scream the right way, they’ll improve their singing technique and be able to scream night after night, worry free!
I’m excited to announce that Music & Rock School now has a vocal coach who’s been trained both classically, and in the proper techniques of screaming and rock vocals. Read more »
