Studio Sessions

Studio Session is a two month long program in which students learn and perfect a song during their weekly lessons, then record their parts and produce a CD single during the Studio Session.  By delving deeper into a song through the recording process, students gain a broader understanding of how music is created and recorded, and how there are truly limitless possibilities to be creative with their instruments.  To see a short video of students during a Studio Session, click here.

What Students Learn

The Studio Session is about learning through the recording process.  Aside form recording and producing a CD single, some of the things students learn include:

  • Playing to individual tracks
  • Recording with a click track
  • Identifying “problem” areas and correcting them
  • Performing parts appropriately for recording (as opposed to live performance)
  • Experimenting with tones and effects
  • The basics of multi-track recording
  • Students will also name their “band”, create CD artwork, and have a CD of the song they record!

By putting parts “under a microscope,” students have the opportunity to hear their performances in a different way and focus on the finer details of their playing.
